'Cleïs' Screen Print - 40 x 50cm

This screen print was made with a completely manual process. The original artwork was drawn on the day, directly on to a material called True Grain which the screen was exposed from. The brushstroke was painted free hand directly on to the screen, and the colour was custom mixed, and the screen was hand-pulled, and the paper was torn to size by hand.

Two colour screen print on 300gsm Somerset Satin paper, 40 x 50cm.
Limited edition of 25, signed and numbered by the artist.

Printed by Jonny Akers at Bicep Press, Bristol.

❓What is the difference between Digital/Giclee prints and Screen Prints?

Giclee and digital prints use a mechanical printer, using the original digital art file. All colours are printed at the same time and no part of the process is done by hand. Digital prints are like a high resolution version of something you’d print at home, and giclee prints are much higher resolution and have a dense, matte finish.

Screen prints use a screen to expose artwork onto using a light-sensitive coating. Ink is then pulled through the screen. Each colour is layered separately and the entire process is done by hand. Screen prints are produced in limited editions and involve a high level of skill and take much longer to produce than digital methods and cost much more, but the finish is of an incredibly high quality, and marries the skill of the artist with the skill of the printmaker to form a piece of artwork.
